Eyeshadow Hadn’t Been In My Makeup Routine For Years—Then This Palette Changed My Mind

As a beauty writer, I’ve had a front row seat to the rise and fall of many trends. And the eyeshadow that’s out of rotation is one that I don’t fully notice until it’s gone. When I was in college (circa 2016), I fully committed to the entire Kylie Cosmetics era. Trim the crease before 8am class, multiple brushes in turn, use setting spray like it’s my job. Meanwhile, the guy next to me appeared in gray sweatpants and ended it. Humbling, to say the least. However, between then and now, the energy shifts. And a full eyeshadow look is starting to feel like… Lots.

Then came the pandemic, and with it, the era of skin-first, minimal makeup. Tinted moisturizer, well-combed brows, a little blush if you’re feeling ambitious—we’re in “Clean Girl” territory. The goal is to look like yourself, just a little more awake. Eyeshadow didn’t really fit into that equation, and slowly but surely, palettes started collecting dust in drawers (including mine). It wasn’t intentional, but it didn’t feel necessary anymore.

And then, of course, something happened and changed my mind. Enter the Mario Ethereal Eye Makeup Palette. I keep seeing it everywhere—Reddit threads, TikToks, comment sections filled with people trying (and failing) to get it. It sold out within weeks, had a growing waitlist, and somehow managed to break into a very crowded beauty market. So I tried it. And now, eyeshadow is back in my routine for good.

Read on to find out everything you need to know about the palette, and why it’s earned a permanent place in my everyday makeup regimen.

Makeup By Mario Brand

In case you missed it, makeup artists are the new beauty icons—and Mario Dedivanovic is at the top of that list. She’s the name behind some of the most recognizable glamor of the last decade (hi, Kim Kardashian). He’s worked his magic on everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Ariana Grande. So when she launched Makeup By Mario, it wasn’t just another celebrity-related beauty line with less involved figures. It feels intentional. The product is designed to reflect real technique, but in a way that doesn’t require a glamorous team or a 45-minute YouTube tutorial to pull it off. It’s the sweet spot between professional-level results and real-life usability—which, if you’ve ever tried to recreate a red carpet look under fluorescent bathroom lighting, you know, is no small feat.

While someone is cautiously returning to eyeshadow, I have no interest in doing anything hard, complicated, or requiring a full tutorial to figure it out. I want something easy. Something beautiful. Something that will make me look presentable without adding a full 30 minutes and mental distractions to my morning routine. Makeup by Mario Ethereal Eyes Palette knows its job. The overall vibe is soft, glowy, and a little beachy in an effortless way—not too bold, but definitely not boring.

In it, you get 12 colors that all combine very well (a blessing). There’s a mix of glossy sheen, matte suede, and natural metallics, all in a group of wearable neutrals. Think taupes, warm browns, soft beiges—colors that emphasize, not dominate. However, the end result is a treat. The shimmers have an almost wet look on the lid, the mattes are smooth and easy to blend, and the metallics add just enough dimension when you want to take it up a notch.

The formula itself is a typical wet powder texture, which basically means the pigment sits on your skin and stays put without feeling heavy. It’s buildable, forgiving, and doesn’t require much effort to make it look good—which, for me, is non-negotiable. You can keep things soft and minimalist or layer it for something more dramatic, and still feel wearable. Add in the fact that it’s been tested by an ophthalmologist, and it checks every box.

Mario Ethereal Eye Makeup Palette Review

What first hooked me was how easy this palette felt. I wasn’t trying to bring back my glamorous college routine, I just wanted something that would make my everyday makeup look more polished. And this does just that. The shades are in the perfect neutral zone—brown, taupe, cream, and of course a little shimmer mixed in—so it all blends together effortlessly. Nothing looks too intense, but somehow your eyes still look better.

For everyday wear, I keep it very simple. I tapped the glossy shimmer into the inner corner and across my lid, then blended the matte shade into the crease to add a little depth. It takes maybe two minutes, and somehow makes me look more awake and collected for my daily errands, Zoom calls, coffee, everything. Apply mascara and I’m done. It gives me a soft, glowing effect that I didn’t realize I was missing after years of not wearing any makeup.

My Experience Using Ethereal Eye Palette

One of my favorite parts about this palette is that you can really make it work for you. On days when I want something easier than those two steps (which is often), I just swipe one color and call it a day. I keep reaching for finer shimmers like EE6 or EE10, blending them on the lids and crease with my fingers. It’s a little shimmery, a little monochromatic, and looks a lot more elevated than the effort required. Absolutely ideal when you want to look like you’ve tried without actually trying.

For a night out, the palette really stands out. I take a deeper shade—EE12 is my go-to—and brush it along my lash line for a soft, lively liner look. Blend it a little, maybe layer on some glitter, and it instantly feels moodier without feeling heavy. Sometimes I also use a pencil liner, but honestly, it’s the shadow that does most of the work. The pigment is there, but it builds up in a forgiving way, so you can never overdo it. It makes eyeshadow feel fun again, which I didn’t see coming.

Ultimately, this palette doesn’t turn me into a glamorous, 45-minute eyeshadow routine anymore—and that’s why I love it. It fits my life now. It’s fast, forgiving, and has enough impact to make you feel worthwhile. My dusty palette has officially been replaced, and for the first time in years, I’m looking forward to using my eyeshadow. Which honestly, says everything.

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
