5 Pinterest Outfits You Can Create This Fall Without Buying Anything New

We all know the feeling: standing in front of a wardrobe full of clothes and still thinking, I have nothing to wear. This paradox appears to be exacerbated during seasonal shifts. The weather isn’t cooperating, and you’re stuck between sandals and a sweater.

Even as someone who works in fashion, I’ve learned that chasing every new product or TikTok Shop sensation isn’t sustainable—or necessary. While it’s tempting to add “one more” outfit, the truth is that most of us already have the basic elements of a good fall wardrobe: a solid trench, a go-to cardigan, trusty denim, and a rotation of t-shirts.

To remind myself of that, I went straight to the source of outfit inspiration: Pinterest. Then, I challenged myself to recreate the look using only what I already had in my closet. What started as a simple scroll turned into a very effective way to spark creativity and rethink the way I wear my clothes.

And because I refuse to be a gatekeeper, I’m sharing my top five formulas that always work. The best part? They don’t have to spend a dime—just a little stylish imagination. And maybe one statement to make it feel that way You.

1. Gray t-shirt + black trousers + black bag

I love any outfit that starts with a white t-shirt. But this one required a gray version—which meant digging deeper into my drawers.

The original inspiration had a cardigan tied at the waist, and while you could totally go without one, I wore mine because I already had one. Honestly, I love how it all comes together and adds a little extra texture and dimension. Paired with tailored trousers, this casual tee instantly feels elevated, bringing a refreshing touch to an otherwise simple but deliberate outfit.

2. Denim shirt + jeans + pop of color

Nothing—and I mean nothing—is more classic than a Canadian tuxedo. Every fall, I find myself looking for some variety. It was the perfect blank canvas. It can feature a bold print, feature a bold color, or let a statement accessory take center stage.

Since I already had all the pieces to reflect the original inspiration photo, I thought, why not? I love how the red pops against the denim and makes room for the leopard print shoes to be neutral.

3. White tank + black blazer + jeans

A black blazer and white t-shirt might feel like the most obvious combination in the book, but honestly, sometimes my brain just needs a visual reminder.

In the inspiration photo, gray jeans balance the black-and-white base of the top. But since I didn’t have any pants, I opted for classic blue denim. As always, a belt (or two) is my finishing touch. To keep it simple (and office friendly), I accessorized with black kitten heels.

4. Raincoat + gray sweater + ballet shoes

I like raincoats for two reasons. Firstly, it goes well with anything, and secondly, it suits absolutely all types of styles.

In this case, the original inspiration leaned on a gray cardigan, trench coat, and ballet flats—a formula I already had. To give it my own touch, I topped it off with a baseball cap, which strikes a balance between dressy and casual (and feels perfect for mornings spent typing away at a coffee shop). A shorter trench keeps the look casual and accentuates the waist, while a longer cut instantly looks sleeker and office-ready.

5. Dark blue sweater + dark jeans + Mary Janes

I knew I wanted to recreate this look the moment I saw it. It’s the perfect excuse to wear my new favorite knit: the Everlane Square Sweater in Everyday Cotton. Pairing a navy sweater with dark-wash denim is instantly chic, especially with a crisp white t-shirt that pops at the collar.

While classic ballet flats or loafers would work, I opted for a fatter Mary Jane to give the outfit a little pop. I wear this to work at a coffee shop, but it’s also perfect for a casual dinner with friends.
