May is fast approaching, and while everyone else is waiting for the first blooms of spring, Garri and I are busy reading books, scouring the library for the perfect Book Club pick. Something about those rainy days in April makes us crave a literary fiction read. But the real question is, should we turn to a fictional book with the brooding characters and toxic relationships of Sally Rooney fame, or a deep and wide-ranging read that dives into the chaos of family drama? After weeks of hesitation, we brought it to our audience. You may not know which books our blind Instagram and BFF Group polls are referencing, but there’s a clear winner: a sprawling, intergenerational family story. So, let me introduce you to our May picks—A true American by Rachel Khong. You can get a copy here.
A true American explores themes of identity, class, race and family through the perspective of 15-year-old Nick, on the search for his biological father in 2021, and his mother, Lily, in the early 2000s, as she falls in love with Matthew, who is very different from her. It’s a sprawling story that keeps you hooked as you become so invested in these characters and their lives. This is the kind of book that needs to be discussed after it’s finished, and fortunately, that’s what our Book Club does well. Here’s everything else you need to know about our May Book Club picks.

What is Everygirl Book Club?
The Everygirl has been recommending and reviewing books for years, providing our unfiltered opinions on what’s worth your time—from the buzzworthy books that TikTok can’t shut up to the debut authors you should get to know. After years of connecting with our readers through a shared love of books, we yearned for a space where we could hear more directly from you and, instead of just telling you what we read, we read together. Everygirl Book Club is a monthly book club with reading choices (carefully curated and truly chosen by you), that we’ll all read together, chatting in BFF Group while bingeing, culminating in our monthly live book club discussion. In between meetings, you can also look forward to lots of book recommendations and fun and interesting bookish content (don’t give us too much credit). More than anything, The Everygirl Book Club is a community of readers, for readers.

Equal parts literary and historical fiction, Native Americans has a Kristin Hannah-like story that I know our Book Club members will really enjoy. It’s expansive, engaging, and I know our group chat will chat non-stop as we read this book. This is a novel that prioritizes character development above all else, highlighting class struggle, racism, and the meaning of family through the experiences of its characters.
It begins in New York City in the early 2000s, when 22-year-old Lily, an unpaid intern at a media company, meets Matthew. While Lily is the Florida-born daughter of a bankrupt scientist fleeing Mao’s Cultural Revolution, Matthew is a suave East Coast resident and heir to a pharmaceutical empire. They may not have anything in common, but they fall in love.
Looking ahead to 2021: Nick Chen feels like an outsider on the Washington island where he grew up with his single mother, Lily. He suspects she’s hiding her past from him, so he sets out to find her birth father for answers—but ends up with more questions than he started with.
When does the book club meet?
Our meeting will take place on the last Thursday of each month, where we’ll dive into every thought, theory, and feeling about the book—guided by discussion questions we’ll post weeks in advance so you have plenty of time to gather your thoughts.

And don’t worry. There’s still plenty of time to discuss things related to the reading we all love. If you can’t make it in a month, that’s okay, we’ll continue the conversation online through the Book Club BFF group, so you stay informed.
You can trust our recommendations
Worried you won’t like reading one month? We get it, your time is valuable, and you don’t want to waste it reading books that feel like a chore to complete. But rest assured, we’re committed to selecting books we know our readers will love. Our selection will cover a variety of genres, so depending on the month, you might dive into your favorite category or step out of your comfort zone a bit. What you can always trust is that each book is hand-picked by a team of readers who are as obsessed with reading as you are. We can’t wait to hear what you think.

PakarPBN
A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
