Everyone thinks of career changes – this is the way I really make it happen
Assessing where we are in our career and how we want to move forward is very important for career growth. This helps us decide whether we want to work towards promotions, learn new skills, or even make complete career changes at all. If you find yourself considering the last one, you are not alone. For several generations, the community has taught us to decide on the career path and hold fast to it, but more and more people challenge the idea. Many of us want more for ourselves, not really like what we think will, or just want to do something that we like more.
I recently made a career change, and many of my friends also considered it. In fact, more than 60 percent of the Z and Millennial genes are considering changing jobs in the coming year, which results in a “great career shift” 2025. Although this can be a frightening and difficult decision to spin, it is possible to change your career – and, based on my experience, it doesn’t have to be difficult.
Is your desire for career changes driven by your own goals, layoffs, or the need to find a balance of work life, it’s time to embrace it and take steps to achieve it. Even though you seem to be really starting to start a career, believe me when I say that the work you entered into your career now can actually be what helps you succeed in the following year. In front, I broke the six steps that I took to prepare for career changes, so you can feel confident and ready to jump too.
1. Take class
When contemplating career changes, the best thing you can do is get out of your head and really study it. Taking class is a good way to do this. When I want to shift my career focus to write from my previous role (I have become an Assistant, Paralegal, and Digital Content Manager!), I joined the writer group and registered for the television writing class. These classes not only help me sharpen my skills, but over time, they become a safe space where I can try new things and ask questions. The best of all, I make a new connection with other people in the field of writing that I want. In class, you will get experience for your resume, test your skills in the learning environment, and meet people who can connect you with new opportunities.
Although writing classes are quite easy to find in any big city, some skills are not available or require more research. For example, you may need to take several classes in the local community college, or you might only be able to complete certification online. It all depends on what you are interested in! Start with class googling, certification, or license what you might need and leave from there. If you work full time and feel in capacity, class or certification may be too excessive. In this case, try the Workshop on weekend one day or MasterClass Online, both of which are far less time to take time to learn something new.
2. Connect with people in the career you want
Another great way to learn more about the career you want to pursue is to talk to people who have done it. Although you can learn practical skills in class, aspects of daily work can vary throughout the company and region. Information meetings are a good way to ask questions and get an accurate understanding of how the career that you are interested may be seen and felt. Here are some of the various ways you can find someone to talk to:
- Think about who you already know that you might be able to connect you to someone in the field you want
- Attend a mixer in all companies to meet people in adjacent fields
- See local events, exhibitions, or career exhibitions in your area
- Explore LinkedIn to see if you or someone you know have a reciprocal relationship with someone you want to learn more
- Send blind email to someone you admire in the role you want
Sometimes, this can be scary, but this is an important step to connect with professionals and determine your own expectations about the work. If you put yourself out there professionally, you never know where it can lead. You may meet someone once and never again, but you might also find a colleague you can dream of or a mentor who is willing to tell you in your career. Make sure you are armed with a list of questions before meeting someone. This is your moment to ask questions about challenges, opportunities, and daily work of work, and you want to get all the details!
3. Research How other people begin
Apart from the things above, sometimes you will not have a direct connection with people in the new career you dream of. If this is the problem, it’s time to start research. One of my favorite activities is to find creative people and see where they started. If you like technology, read an interview that features your favorite technology entrepreneur. If you want to enter the social media strategy, see your favorite brand and see what they are doing on all their platforms. Then, see who runs it and how they get there. In doing this, you will learn about how people navigate to the place they want and how their industry works at the same time. Reading autobiography, if available in the career path you choose, is also very inspiring.

When doing research, you might start seeing the pattern: no one reaches the place they want in the same way. And no one achieves their goals in the right amount of time they think they will do. Most people take bends and turn to achieve their dream careers. And many people have a dream career and decide to find something else. Reading about people who have done what you will do is a good way to know that it is not impossible to change a career. In fact, more than can be done if you continue to do it.
4. Say your new career goals loud
This one seems simple, but this is the key to preparing career changes. When I left my job in digital marketing, I had difficulty telling people what I did next. After almost a year, a stranger in a coffee shop asked me what my job was, and it exploded from me. I waited for them to ask me, but they didn’t do it. Maybe because I practically shouted my profession to them, but maybe because they had no reason to doubt me. I felt a wave of pride when I finally said it hard. It started the chain reaction that helped me pass through the fraud syndrome that I felt.
I know firsthand that Getting the courage to admit that you want to change a career is one thing, but tell people about it, who has the potential to doubt you, is something else. If you like a journal, placing the words in writing can be a strong way to fight doubts. You can also start from the small one by updating your resume, website, or email signature to reflect your new goal. Next, tell strangers or close friends what you are doing. After this repetition, it will be easier and easier to imagine it as your true future.
5. Identification of your skills which will now be translated
Changing your career does not have to mean that it really starts again. In fact, that rarely happens. If you have a job or career at all, you are one step ahead. Chances, in your current career, you have learned important skills in any work: communication, professionalism, problem solving, managing change, and the ability to learn new skills.
When I was in digital marketing, I used to employ new members for my team. Of course, this requires a review of resumes and qualifications, but my interview questions are more about studying who is behind the award. Someone who is really eager to start a new career (and who is willing to learn!) Is worthy of taking the opportunity, especially if that person has a clear goal. Not everyone employs this way, but the best way to show a new employer that you don’t just start is to register skills on your resume that applies to your new career, as well as the class you take or the title you get. Add community groups, guidance programs, or whatever you have that shows that you are a multi -talented person who can jump to any new project.
6. Take a small step every day
Giving yourself a daily mini assignment may sound like a lot, especially if you work full time, but it doesn’t have to take time. If you make an appointment to yourself to do something small every day, whether it is reading the article, updating your resume, researching the class, or just telling someone your career you live, you will feel the progress. Applying a job search schedule can help you handle some of these things every day or every week, depending on your capacity.
Plus, these steps do not even have to be physical action all the time. Schedule a short time in your week to reflect what you want is also an important part of the trip. This will allow you to check -in to make sure the small steps you take are still directed to your destination.
Added, every decision that you make will ultimately lead to a larger milestone and holidays when you make a career change. I like to save my list of achievements for this reason, so I can look back when I feel frustrated or jammed. When I see what I have done, it reminds me to continue working towards my goal and rearrange my confidence. We are all in the path of our own careers and that can always change, and believe me, if you continue to do it, the next step will be close.
