Alex Chaudhuri: We are driving, and I have just experienced this strong pain. They took me to our hospital, and they told me that I would have the baby right then and there.
I was only 28 weeks old. Appropriate. They quickly gave birth to him, and then the nurse said, I did not think this child would succeed. It doesn’t look good. They called the nets team to come and pick him up, and he went to Uva.
Derek Chaudhuri: I mean, I know it’s amazing when you first entered Nicu, you and your other voices and sounds, but they made him friendly as possible for us, and we felt like we were in good hands.
Alex Chaudhuri: When we first saw him, he used a ventilator. It’s a bit scary to be seen with all the cables. He did not breathe alone, as a start. He did not maintain his body heat. Sleep Apnea is the main thing for him, and I know that he must also have a blood transfusion. Those are some of the main things he must do.
We did not live in the area, and that made it very difficult because we had to go back and forth. My main goal is to be there with my baby. I want to be there for him so I won’t miss anything. When the doctors will make their rounds, I want to be there during feeding and different things like that. I stay as long as possible. Only fixed on the chair.
They have a team of doctors like Doctor Swanson. He just explained to us that we only need to take it day after day. Both nurses, Donna and Cynthia, they made me feel like family. I feel very comfortable when I can leave Nicu and they will care about faith. I feel not just the number in UVA.
