This Filtered Shower Head Improves My Beauty Routine and My Bathroom

Being a renter is incredibly frustrating, especially as a DIYer who loves changing everything about her space. For example, what does it mean that I can’t paint the walls or install new lights without “violating the lease”? The reality of loving a well-designed space while renting often seems to be getting creative with changes—often turning to temporary fixes like command hooks and peel-off wallpaper in an effort to make the bigger changes we crave.

My bathroom, in particular, is one room that I find very difficult to upgrade. With all the pre-installed equipment (which always seems to break), there’s little room for real customization. But that didn’t stop me from trying, especially considering the amount of time I spend there every day. And honestly, time is sacred to me. The time I spend in the bathroom is the only guaranteed moment in my day where I can relax, reset, and be completely screen-free.

When it came time to make a change, I knew I wanted to start with the thing that was having the most negative impact on my bathroom experience: my sad, weak shower head. With barely any water pressure, I never really felt clean after showering. That’s when I discovered the Sprosos shower head and chlorine removal filter set—a renter-friendly upgrade that also filters your water for healthier skin and hair. After using the shower system for over three months, I can confidently say that it has completely changed my daily routine. Read on to find out my honest thoughts.

What is a Spros Shower Filter?

The Spros shower head and filter is a shower head system designed to remove common impurities from your water while increasing overall water pressure. Unlike traditional shower heads, these shower heads have an internal filtration system that helps reduce chlorine, heavy metals, sediment and other contaminants that can cause dry, irritated skin and dull, frizzy hair.

It is designed with renters in mind. It requires no tools, no permanent installation, and is completely removable when it’s time to move.

Features and color options

One of my favorite things about the Spros shower head is how intentional its design is. Removable hand showers make it easy to rinse anywhere—even hard-to-reach places—and also make shower cleaning easy. It includes three spray settings:

  • Soft cloud/fog setting
  • Concentrated middle spray
  • Full coverage option

(I usually keep the lever right between the mist and full coverage settings for perfect balance). It also has a water stop switch, which is useful when using products that you don’t want to rinse off immediately. From a design perspective, Sprosos clearly understands that functionality alone is not enough. Bath amenities are available in eight colors. Five fun, bright colors that will add a dose of dopamine to your day, and three more neutral colors (black, gold, and metallic) if you’re looking for something sleeker and chic.

Cost and where to buy it

The hand shower and filter set costs $148 as a one-time purchase. You also have the option to subscribe to quarterly filter replacements and receive 30% of your purchase. Subscriptions can be cancelled, skipped or paused at any time.

You can also purchase a larger shower + filter kit for $267, which comes with an additional filter cartridge, slide bar, and soap dish attachment. This option is also eligible for a 30% subscription discount. Every purchase comes with 60-day free returns, a five-year guarantee, and ships free. The easiest way to purchase is directly through the Sprosos website, but you can also purchase via Amazon.

Installation and daily use

This system is very easy to install. Each box comes with everything you need to do the job, including easy-to-follow instructions and all the tools you’ll need. My husband installed a new shower head system in just ten minutes, so it won’t take much of your time to install. Maintenance is also simple. I just wiped it down during my regular cleaning routine, and so far I haven’t noticed any mineral buildup (which I assume is caused by the filtration system). Filters should be replaced every 90 days to maintain optimal quality and performance.

Benefits of Spros Bath Filters

Filtration systems and how they work

According to Spros, the filter uses a two-layer system to reduce chlorine, heavy metals, and sediment in your water. These impurities can strip skin and hair of moisture and disrupt the skin’s natural barrier, causing frizz and breakage as well as irritated skin and clogged pores. This filter also removes unpleasant odors from your water, making you look and smell better after showering.

Performance for skin and hair

Spros claims that filtering chlorine, heavy metals, and other impurities from your water can help support a healthier skin barrier, which can reduce dryness, redness, and sensitivity over time (something I’ve definitely struggled with). For hair, the brand notes that filtered water can minimize buildup, reduce dullness, and increase softness and shine. While results may vary depending on location and water quality, the idea is simple: When there are fewer irritants in the water, your skin and hair won’t have to work as hard to recover afterward.

“Between the spray settings, the water pressure, the water cover and the design, it feels like there is a little bit of luxury that I can enjoy every day.”

Spross Shower Filter Review: My Experience

When I say that showering is now one of my favorite parts of the day, I’m not exaggerating. This setting completely changed my experience.

Firstly, the water pressure was great, better than any showerhead I’ve ever used, great. I finally feel clean after every shower, and the removable shower head makes rinsing easy (no more soap residue left behind).

Second, I really noticed a difference in my skin. As someone who struggles with redness and irritation, I’ve noticed my skin has become less reactive since using this shower. And while I’m not prone to acne, I’ve barely had any breakouts in the last three months. My hair is also overall softer and less frizzy. Even after the first wash, I can feel the difference, and it now feels healthier overall.

Aesthetically, my shower got a Kris Jenner-level facelift when we installed it. It looks modern, sleek, and hotel-worthy. Between the spray settings, water pressure, water cover, and design, there are little luxuries I can enjoy every day.
